“And
as you may have heard, I am recently a crowned class B dungeon master.” – Keith
Stat
I have spent the majority of the
last year and a half at the University participating in classes
geared towards better understanding how to be a quality educator. This
experience has been all at once good, bad, and incredibly testing at times. I
was knocking on the door of graduation when I decided to switch into the
Education program, which is why I haven’t taken many content classes over the
last year. I have been placed in an area high school since just before winter
break of last year. In my time there I have worked with many teachers,
participated in many events, taught many lessons, and spent time in district
meetings where I hope to both learn and contribute in a positive way.
My strengths in teaching English are
that I read and write very well, I am able to dissect text to better understand
it, and I realize that writing and reading are not easy for everyone and am
willing and able to work in multiple strategies to teach the content to readers
and writers of all levels.
My weaknesses are that I strongly
dislike Shakespeare and struggle to comprehend his texts and plays, and that I
am not entirely familiar with many of the works that are taught at the
secondary level (the latter I feel is an easily fixable problem).
